i-Sight Investor Attitudinal Barometer
January 2012The purpose behind i-Sight is to create an innovative and leading tool for the enhanced understanding of Britain’s millions of retail investors. It’s aim to become leading information service that provides insight to assist businesses in assessing and predicting likely investor behaviour over a given period.
This newly developed tool is a data tracker of decision making and activity among Britain’s retail investor sector. It covers 29 different investment types and allows investment companies to track levels of specific fund appeal over rolling six month periods.
The analysis reveals:
- The collective outlook of investors to certain investment types.
- The distribution (standard deviation) of outlook (i.e. How varied opinion is?)
- The proportion of the market that has an active opinion towards a specific investment type.
- The shift in attitude compared to the corresponding previous six month period.
- The full spectrum of opinion along an 11 point scale.
A sample of more than 1,200 active investors were involved in this study, with a distribution of respondents across five key wealth segments, six key age demographics and sex.
The five wealth segments are:
- Mass Market – £10k-£100k in net investible assets
- Mass Affluent – £100k-£250k in net investible assets
- Core Affluent – £250k-£500k in net investible assets
- Emerging HNW – £500k-£1million in net investible assets
- HNW – £1millIion in net investible assets
A series of attitudinal assessments were made to identify how investors behave and how their attitudes differ from a broad range of perspectives. This was conducted across investment classifications by region, sector and asset class.
